According to the Rudra Samhita, Yuddha Khand of the Shiv Puran, a fierce and devastating war once erupted between the attendants of Lord Shiva and the powerful demon king Andhakasura. Under the leadership of Veerabhadra and Nandi, the forces of Shiva were overpowering the demonic army and inflicting heavy losses on their ranks.
The course of the battle changed dramatically when Shukracharya, the revered preceptor of the demons, began employing the Sanjivani Vidya, a sacred power capable of restoring life. Every demon slain on the battlefield was immediately revived through the force of his mantras. As a result, the conflict became endless, and the attendants of Lord Shiva found themselves increasingly frustrated and exhausted.
Witnessing that Shukracharya's actions had become a major obstacle to the establishment of righteousness, Lord Shiva's anger intensified. According to the scripture, his third eye trembled with fury as he resolved to end the disruption. Lord Shiva then commanded Nandi to capture Shukracharya and bring him before him.
Following the divine command, Shukracharya was taken into custody and presented before Lord Shiva. In an extraordinary display of divine power, Lord Shiva swallowed Shukracharya whole, bringing a decisive turn to the ongoing conflict and removing the force that had been repeatedly reviving the defeated demons.
The account remains one of the most astonishing episodes described in the Shiv Puran, highlighting the immense power of Lord Shiva and the extraordinary events associated with the cosmic struggle between divine and demonic forces. The narrative continues to be remembered as a significant spiritual mystery linked to the sacred observance of Friday Pradosh.
